eBay and USPS Peak Season 2026: Rates, Dates, Changes

USPS peak rates run from 4 Oct 2026 to 17 Jan 2027. What eBay Labels says, the 18 Oct and 25 Oct Ground Advantage changes and USPS send-by dates.

Reseller news, week of 19 Oct 2026

Peak season shipping is here. USPS holiday prices have been in effect since 4 October, eBay has said what that means for eBay Labels, Ground Advantage pricing on eBay started using the buyer's ZIP code on 18 October, and eBay says Ground Advantage rates changed again on 25 October. Here's what's confirmed so far, with the official links.

USPS peak prices: 4 Oct 2026 to 17 Jan 2027

USPS has a temporary price change for the holiday season on four products: Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select. It runs from 12 a.m. Central Time on 4 October 2026 until 12 a.m. Central Time on 17 January 2027. No other products are affected.

If you buy postage at the Post Office counter, the USPS retail increase for Ground Advantage is $0.50 for 0 to 3 lb in Zones 1 to 4, and $0.75 for 0 to 3 lb in Zones 5 to 9. Heavier packages go up more. Commercial prices have their own amounts, mostly smaller than retail. The full list of increases is in the USPS release linked below.

What eBay says for eBay Labels

These figures are eBay's own, for postage bought through eBay Labels. They are not the same as the USPS figures above, so don't mix them up.

  • Priority Mail: no increase for packages up to 20 lb in Zones 1 to 8, and no increase for Flat Rate packages.
  • Ground Advantage: no increase for packages up to 20 lb in Zones 1 to 8.
  • Ground Advantage cubic: tiers .30 to 1.0 go up by $1.18 to $2.84, depending on the zone. eBay compares rates and applies cubic pricing automatically when it saves you money.
  • Rural ZIP codes: in its 28 Sep post, before the 18 Oct change below, eBay said shipments to USPS-designated rural ZIP codes are charged at commercial rates.
  • eBay says Labels rates stay below USPS commercial pricing for most shipments.

eBay has also posted FedEx and UPS peak dates for eBay Labels. FedEx peak runs from 28 Sep 2026 to 17 Jan 2027, and eBay says the FedEx Demand Surcharge is waived on eBay Labels for the FedEx services it lists. UPS peak runs from 27 Sep 2026 to 16 Jan 2027, with a Demand Surcharge on UPS Ground, Ground Saver and Air packages bought on eBay Labels. FedEx 2Day One Rate surcharges apply from 26 Oct 2026, from $0.81 to $1.40 per package.

New since 18 Oct: Ground Advantage pricing by destination ZIP

eBay's Seller News Team says USPS is changing how it prices Ground Advantage. Until now there were two rate groups, standard and rural. From 18 October 2026 there are three geography based groups set by the destination ZIP code, in addition to standard rates.

What eBay says about it:

  • It is "not an overall rate increase", but prices may vary more by destination, going up or down for some ZIP codes.
  • "Most buyers will not see a rate increase."
  • If you use calculated shipping on eBay, buyers see a rate worked out for their location automatically.
  • Priority Mail has no pricing updates at this time.
  • USPS may adjust these rates from time to time.

eBay links a ZIP code reference list for the new groups. It hasn't published rate cards for each group, so the best check is the postage quote for the actual destination when you buy the label.

Then on 25 Oct: eBay says USPS made another round of Ground Advantage rate changes, with some rates going up and some going down depending on weight, zone and destination. eBay hasn't given amounts. More in our 25 Oct Ground Advantage update.

Holiday send-by dates (USPS)

For expected delivery before 25 December within the lower 48 states, USPS recommends sending by:

  • USPS Ground Advantage: Thursday 17 Dec
  • First-Class Mail: Thursday 17 Dec
  • Priority Mail: Friday 18 Dec
  • Priority Mail Express: Saturday 19 Dec

For Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and US territories, First-Class Mail, Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express use the same three dates. Ground Advantage to and from those places has a service expectation of 10 days or more, so look up your route with the USPS service commitments tool.

International: First-Class Package International and Priority Mail International by Wednesday 9 Dec, and Priority Mail Express International by Wednesday 16 Dec, for every region USPS lists, including Canada, Europe and Mexico.

eBay's own dates: eBay hasn't published 2026 holiday cut-off dates for US sellers yet. It says shipping updates are coming at its Winter Seller Check-In on 29 Oct (12:00 PT, 20:00 UK time). Check eBay's announcements after 29 Oct for the details.

Selling on Poshmark too?

Two Poshmark changes land this month: since 19 Oct, sellers pay the $50 USPS hazmat fee if a package is flagged, and from 26 Oct, the cost of a label upgrade for packages over 5 lb comes out of your earnings if you ship without upgrading. Weigh the packed box, packaging included.

What to do this week

  1. Recheck postage on heavier and boxy items before you set holiday prices.
  2. If you offer flat shipping on eBay, check a few quotes to different ZIP codes since the 18 Oct and 25 Oct changes.
  3. Put 17 and 18 Dec in your calendar, and 9 Dec for anything going abroad.
