How to Write a Vinted Description (UK): What Buyers Scan For, With Examples
Write Vinted descriptions UK buyers trust: size, measurements, colour, condition and honest flaws. Example patterns you can copy, check and post yourself.
A good Vinted description doesn't need to be long. It needs to answer the questions a buyer would otherwise message you about: Will it fit? What colour is it really? Is anything wrong with it? Get those right and you'll spend less time in your inbox and more time packing parcels.
Here's a simple, no-jargon way to write Vinted descriptions for UK buyers, with example patterns you can adapt. You write it (or draft it), you check it, and you post it yourself in the Vinted app.
What buyers scan for on Vinted UK
Most Vinted shoppers are scrolling on their phone. They glance at the photos, the price and the first couple of lines. In rough order, they're looking for:
- Brand and what it is – "Whistles wool midi skirt", not "lovely skirt".
- Size, plus how it fits – UK size, and whether it runs small, large or true to size.
- Colour in plain words – navy, khaki, cream, burgundy.
- Condition – and any flaws, stated up front.
- Measurements – especially for vintage, denim, coats and anything without a clear size.
If those five things are easy to find, you've done most of the job.
Title vs description: different jobs
Your title is short and searchable. Stick to brand + item + key detail + size, e.g. "Levi's 501 straight jeans, mid blue, W30 L32". Leave out the emojis and the "must go!!".
Your description is where the trust gets built. That's where you add fit, measurements, material, condition and anything a buyer might want to know before they press buy. Don't just copy the title. Expand on it.
A simple structure that works
Try this order. It's quick to write and easy to read on a small screen:
- One-line summary – what it is and why it's nice.
- Size and fit – tag size, and how it actually fits.
- Measurements – laid flat, approximate.
- Colour and material – as shown on the label where you can.
- Condition and flaws – honest and specific.
- Handy extras – smoke-free home, bundles welcome, and so on (only if true).
Example pattern – knitwear (illustrative):
Cosy chunky cable-knit jumper from Next, perfect for autumn. Size: UK 12, relaxed fit – would suit a 10–14 for an oversized look. Measurements (approx, laid flat): pit to pit 52cm · length 64cm · sleeve 58cm Colour: oatmeal/cream. Material: 70% acrylic, 30% wool (per label). Condition: very good. Light bobbling under the arms (see photo 5). No holes or stains. Happy to bundle – check my other listings.
Example pattern – jeans (illustrative):
Levi's 501 straight leg jeans in a classic mid-blue wash. Size: W30 L32. Fits true to size, high rise. Measurements (approx, laid flat): waist 38cm · rise 29cm · inseam 80cm · leg opening 19cm Condition: good used condition. Some natural fading at the knees, small mark on the back pocket (photo 6).
Short lines, clear labels, no waffle.
Condition, flaws and measurements
Condition: pick the Vinted condition option that honestly fits, then back it up in words. "Very good – worn a handful of times" says much more than the option on its own.
Flaws: say what, where and how noticeable, and point to the photo. "Tiny pull on the left cuff, only visible up close (photo 4)" earns trust. Hiding a flaw nearly always costs you more later in awkward messages, a disappointed buyer or a returned parcel.
Measurements: lay the item flat, measure in centimetres (add inches too if you like) and say they're approximate. A quick photo of the tape measure on the garment backs up your numbers.
Colour and size language for UK buyers
- Use UK sizes first (UK 10, UK 8 shoes). Add EU/US only if it's on the label.
- Use colour names people actually search: navy, khaki, mustard, burgundy, cream, charcoal. Skip vague words like "nice neutral".
- If your photos show the colour differently from real life (warm lighting, we've all been there), say so: "Truer to the colour in photo 2."
- Spell it the way your buyers do: colour, jumper, trainers, trousers.
Drafting faster from your photos
If you list a lot, writing every description from scratch is the slow bit. ListSnaps can help with that step: Photo in. Listing out. You upload your photos and get a draft title and description to work from. Then you copy it, check it against the item (especially size, measurements and flaws), and paste it into Vinted yourself. ListSnaps doesn't post to Vinted or connect to your account. It just saves you the typing.
Start with the AI listing generator or go straight to the Vinted listing generator. Selling the same piece elsewhere? There are drafts for eBay, Depop, Poshmark and Mercari too. On Free and Plus, each fresh draft for another marketplace uses another generation; on Pro, you can reformat the same draft for other marketplaces in the app without using an extra generation. You paste each one yourself.
FAQ
How long should a Vinted description be? Long enough to cover size, fit, measurements, colour, condition and flaws. For most items that's around five or six short lines. Easy to scan beats long.
Should I include measurements on Vinted? Yes, especially for vintage, denim, coats and anything where sizing varies by brand. Lay it flat, measure in cm and note they're approximate.
Do I need to mention small flaws? Yes. Mention every flaw you know about, say where it is and show it in a photo. Buyers are much happier with a small flaw they were told about than one they find when the parcel arrives.
Can I use the same description on Vinted and other apps? You can reuse the facts (size, measurements, condition, flaws), then tweak the wording for each app. Keep the details identical so your listings never contradict each other.
Does ListSnaps post to Vinted for me? No. ListSnaps drafts the title and description from your photos. You review it, copy it and post it yourself in Vinted.
How much does ListSnaps cost? Free gives you 5 generations a month. Plus is $9 a month for 100. Pro is $15 a month for unlimited, with priority AI and bulk. See pricing.
