Depop Listing Description Template: What to Include (With Copy-and-Edit Examples)

A simple Depop description template: brand, size, condition, measurements, flaws and style keywords. Casual, clear examples you can edit and post yourself.

Depop has its own vibe. Buyers are browsing for style as much as for a specific item, and the best listings feel like a friend telling you about a great find. But a fun caption on its own won't stop the messages asking "what are the measurements?" or "any flaws?".

The trick is to be casual and clear. Here's a simple Depop description template you can reuse, plus examples you can edit for your own items.

What Depop buyers look for

Most Depop shoppers are scrolling on their phones, often through search or the explore feed. Before they hit buy or send an offer, they want to know:

  1. What it is and who made it – brand and item type.
  2. The size and how it fits – tag size isn't always the full story, especially for vintage.
  3. The condition – honestly, in plain words.
  4. Measurements – so they can compare to something they already own.
  5. Any flaws – what, where and how noticeable.
  6. The style – the aesthetic words they're searching for, like y2k, grunge, coquette or 90s.

Cover those and your description is doing its job.

The Depop description template

Copy this structure and fill in the blanks:

[Brand] [item] – [one-line style hook] Size: [tag size] – fits like [true to size / oversized / cropped / runs small] Measurements (approx, laid flat): [pit to pit / waist] · [length] · [other] Condition: [great / good / well loved] – [flaw, where, photo number] or "no flaws I can see" Material: [from label, if known] Style: [3–5 style keywords] [Bundle or shipping note, only if true]

Keep each line short. People read Depop listings on small screens, so labels like "Size:" and "Condition:" help them find what they need at a glance.

Example descriptions

These are illustrative patterns, not real listings.

Notice the pattern. A friendly first line, then straight to the facts. A little personality, no waffle.

Style keywords: use them, don't stuff them

Depop search picks up words from your description, so style keywords help buyers find you. A few tips:

  • Pick 3–5 that genuinely fit. If it isn't y2k, don't call it y2k. Buyers notice, and it makes your shop feel less trustworthy.
  • Mix aesthetic and practical words. "Grunge" plus "oversized" plus "band tee" covers style, fit and item.
  • Include the brand and era where it's relevant: "vintage Levi's", "90s Adidas".
  • Skip long lists of unrelated tags. A wall of 20 keywords is hard to read and doesn't make your listing more relevant.

Check Depop's current guidance on hashtags and tagging in the app, as the way it handles tags has changed over time.

Condition and flaws: keep it honest

Depop buyers are often happy to buy items with a bit of wear, especially vintage, as long as they know about it up front. Say what the flaw is, where it is, and how noticeable it is, then point to the photo:

  • "Tiny mark on the left sleeve, only visible up close (pic 6)"
  • "Some fading on the collar, normal for the age (pic 3)"

A buyer who knew about a flaw is a happy buyer. A buyer who finds a surprise flaw is a message you don't want.

Where drafting help fits

If you're listing in batches, writing every caption from scratch gets tiring fast. ListSnaps can give you a starting point: Photo in. Listing out. You upload your photos and get a draft Depop title and description to work from. Then you copy it, add your measurements and flaw notes, check the style words fit, and paste it into Depop yourself. ListSnaps doesn't connect to your Depop account or post anything for you.

Try the Depop listing generator, or start at the AI listing generator if you sell the same piece on other apps too. There are drafts for Vinted and eBay as well, each pasted by you. On Free and Plus, each fresh draft for another marketplace uses another generation; on Pro, you can reformat the same draft for other marketplaces in the app without using an extra generation.

FAQ

How long should a Depop description be? Around five to seven short lines is plenty for most items. Cover brand, size, fit, measurements, condition, flaws and a few style words.

Should I use emojis in my Depop description? A couple is fine and fits the Depop vibe. Keep them to the first line or as light accents so the facts stay easy to read.

What style keywords should I use on Depop? Use 3–5 words that genuinely describe the item's aesthetic, era, fit or brand. Avoid tagging styles that don't match.

Do I need measurements on Depop? Yes, especially for vintage and anything with unusual sizing. Lay it flat, measure in cm (or inches) and say they're approximate.

Does ListSnaps post to Depop for me? No. ListSnaps drafts the text from your photos. You review it, copy it and post it yourself in Depop.

How much does ListSnaps cost? Free gives you 5 generations a month. Plus is $9 a month for 100. Pro is $15 a month for unlimited, with priority AI and bulk. See pricing.
